    The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) invites applications and nominations for a Program Chair in the area of Integrated Wood Engineering and Design.
    UNBC is “Canada’s Green University” ™. Our commitment to Environmental Sustainability is integral to our decision making and growth. In response to a global need for sustainable building practices, UNBC is establishing a research focused Centre of Excellence in Wood Structures Design and Engineering. At the core of the Centre will be a small dedicated group of internationally leading researchers with expertise in wood structures, wood connections, building policy and regulations, and sustainable and healthy building design. In collaboration with other premier institutes from around the world, this team of research focused faculty will develop three graduate programs: A course based Masters of Engineering in Integrated Wood Design, and two research based programs: a Masters of Applied Science, and eventually a PhD in Applied Science in Wood Structures Engineering and Design.
    The program will be offered from North America’s newest, and most innovative wood building, designed by world-renowned architect and sustainable design proponent, Mr. Michael Green, Michael Green Architecture.
    We are seeking a Program Chair with a desire to transform and elevate the global perception of the role wood buildings can play in a sustainable future. The Lead Researcher will have the unique opportunity to create a research team dedicated to pushing the limits of wood design. The team will be responsible for designing and delivering a dynamic, industrially relevant and transformative graduate program dedicated to research and professional programming in sustainable wood structures design and engineering.
    The Program Chair will be committed to the mission and values of the University of Northern British Columbia.
    The ideal candidate will assemble, and be able to provide creative and inspirational leadership for, a team of faculty. S/he will be a person of vision, an articulate spokesperson for the Centre of Excellence for Wood Structures Engineering, and will be energetic, innovative, and internationally recognized in the area of wood Engineering and Design. The candidate will work closely with industry and design professionals in both Canada and abroad, ensuring the program is vibrant, connected and relevant to the industry. The candidate will hold a PhD in a relevant discipline and be a Professional Engineer in Canada, or have credentials which will allow them to become accredited in Canada within three years. They will have proven experience in building effective and innovative research teams, and be an effective and engaging instructor at the graduate level.
    They will be known for their interdisciplinary approach and their ability to connect with fellow academics, their community and the wood design and engineering community.
